We offer a wide variety of gynecologic programs and services specifically designed to meet women's health and wellness needs. Our general gynecology programs focus on routine preventive care, including Pap smears, breast exams, contraceptive counseling and other gynecologic screenings. We focus on the following areas of care:
Adolescent Gynecology, which focuses on the unique gynecologic issues of young women, including menstrual irregularities, delayed first period and pelvic pain.
Bladder and Pelvic Floor Health, offering comprehensive, efficient, state-of-the-art urogynecology services for a variety of pelvic floor disorders.
Menopause Services, including evaluation, nutrition and hormone and exercise therapy, and individual counseling.
Premenstrual Syndrome - Penn’s Premenstrual Syndrome Program includes medical treatment, supportive counseling, nutrition education, support groups and ongoing evaluation.
Reproductive Surgery, which focuses on the medical and surgical treatment of gynecologic problems. We offer minimally invasive surgery such as laparoscopic surgery, to treat conditions including endometriosis, uterine fibroids, pelvic inflammatory disease, and more, as well as hysteroscopy to treat endometrial pathology as polypus endometrii, submucous fibroids, synechiae, and more.
The specialists are qualified in performing the following procedures:
endoscopic surgical interventions – laparoscopy and hysteroscopy
therapeutic and elective abortion
prenatal invasive diagnosis – chorion villous biopsy, amniocentesis and cordocentesis
preparation for and implementation of natural and surgical deliveries, as well as direct observation upon birth
intensive observation of high-risk pregnancies (pre-eclampsia diabetes, other endocrine diseases), preterm premature rupture of membranes and accompanying general and infectious diseases
management of pregnant women with complications
two 3D/ 4D ultrasound systems are available
The Department has several sectors:
two-bed patient rooms with private toilet and TV-set
labor ward – in this room the woman is observed during the first stage of labor by doctors and midwives. There is an option for epidural analgesia. The ward gives the mother privacy and tranquility, in the presence of the father if desired
delivery room – adjacent to labor ward. In this room the final stage of delivery takes place – the arrival of the new person. The delivery room has a baby compound, where the baby is warmed, actively reanimated, bathed and cleaned immediately after birth
Two operation theatres – in immediate vicinity to delivery hall. Here, if indications require, delivery is completed by Caesarean section in shortest period in the presence of the whole medical team–obstetricians, anesthesiologist, midwives and a pediatrician.
After the intervention the patients are accommodated in Reanimation. The arrangement and gear of the reanimation sector allow constant visual control over patients’ condition and facilitate diagnostic and treatment activities.
Neonatology sector is furnished with 11 baby beds, 2 incubators for newborns suffering difficulty with adjustment or such demanding more intensive care under constant supervision by a neonatologist, special lighting for phototherapy on babies with extreme cases of jaundice, milk bank.
The hospital gives the opportunity for preservation of stem cells to parents, who wish. The procedure is performed within the premises of the hospital, under strict rules and accurate documents.
Patients with health insurance receive medical care also under the clinical paths, paid by the National Health Insurance Fund. In some cases there are additional charges.
The obstetrics/gynecology consulting room of Medical Center “St. Sofia” provides patient care paid by the NHIF for different pathologies, woman consultation, and prophylactic exams for prevention of cervix cancer.
